Shooting Storms on Film
Since founding Prairie Pictures’ StormStock in 1993, filmmaker Martin Lisius has insisted on capturing content on the highest quality motion picture formats available. To prepare for the coming of HD video, he began filming storms and climate on Super 35mm motion picture film in 1998 with an Arriflex 35-3 II camera using Kodak Vision film stocks. Once HD came online in 2005, Lisius transferred what he had captured to that new video format with the help of award-winning colorist Steve Franko in Dallas, Texas. In 2019, Lisius accessed the negatives he produced between 1998 and 2008 and transferred those to 4K at Colorlab in Maryland.
Hurricane Katrina making landfall, South Dakota’s deadliest tornado, and massive severe storms are just a few of the topics that make up the film collection.
“Shooting on film requires more concentration than shooting digital,” Lisius said. “Because it costs money every time the camera is activated, I am mindful of what I have composed in the viewfinder. It has to be a strong subject, and exposure, focus, and all other technical aspects have to be perfect.”
Because storms are fast-moving, Lisius built a lightweight, “run-and-gun” rig with a manufactured Nikon mount to accept lightweight stills lenses. “I used what I learned as a news videographer in my earlier years to create an ENG-style film camera that was quick and easy to use in the field.”
In addition to its ability to accommodate the changes in video resolutions, Lisius said 35mm film requires a rugged camera that can withstand a lot of abuse. “Unlike some video cameras, my Arriflex shot in hurricanes and torrential rains without failing. It really was built like a ‘tank’.”All of the Super 35mm film content shot by Lisius is available for license at StormStock.
New Collection: New York Metro Area Crime 2004–2014
The Citiwide News Collection is a decade of dramatic, expertly shot, first-on-the-scene crime and breaking news footage.
The footage was shot by former police and fire department dispatchers who got to the scene before any other journalist because they understood what first responders were saying over the radio—and understood the significance of what they were deliberately leaving out.
They captured crime, fires, accidents, emergencies, protests, spontaneous celebrations, and spectacles like circus elephants parading through the city, recorded mostly at night across the New York City metropolitan area between 2004 and 2014.
This collection includes raw footage, not just edited clips, and covers a wide range of generic-looking shots such as bullet casings, plain-clothes detectives looking for evidence, raging fires, and the aftermath of high-speed car crashes. These are shots that can illustrate stories anywhere, not just in the New York metro area.
The Citiwide News Collection expands our collection of New York City crime and breaking news footage, together spanning four decades of the New York City metro area’s history.

Marking 90 Years Since the Birth of Yves Saint Laurent: INA's Essential Collection
On August 1, 2026, the world will mark what would have been the 90th birthday of Yves Saint Laurent, one of the most influential figures in the history of fashion. From his debut as Christian Dior’s successor at just 21 to the launch of his own house and decades of groundbreaking collections, Saint Laurent reshaped how the world dressed and how women saw themselves.
To coincide with this milestone, INA is spotlighting a rich selection of television and radio content spanning over five decades of coverage, offering content buyers and producers a uniquely comprehensive window into the designer’s life and legacy.
Beyond the personality, the collection documents the full arc of his creative output, from rare early footage of a visibly emotional Saint Laurent being interviewed live outside Dior in January 1958, to runway reports, behind-the-scenes fashion show coverage, and retrospectives celebrating his 30th and 40th anniversaries in couture. Interviews with close collaborators, longtime muses such as Catherine Deneuve, and industry observers provide layered editorial perspectives across different eras.
With 100 pieces available, this is a compelling resource for documentary projects, anniversary specials, or any production exploring fashion, culture, and 20th-century French identity.
Historic Films Announces Exclusive Representation of the Bob Hope Archive
On behalf of the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation, Historic Films is proud to announce its exclusive representation for clip and excerpt licensing of the Bob Hope archive of television shows and specials. The staff at Historic Films is deeply honored to be entrusted with one of the greatest legacies of American entertainment on film.
Bob Hope’s career began in vaudeville in 1924 and by the 1960’s was one of the most recognized profiles and talents in the world. In the entire history of show business, no individual performer traveled as far and as often to entertain so many. No one entertained our fighting troops as often and for as long as Bob Hope. Beginning with World War Two and through Operation Desert Shield in 1990, Bob offered our fighting men and women a welcome respite from their military duties. A true patriot was he!
Radio, movies, and personal appearances made Bob a star, but it was television that made him a superstar and a welcomed guest in every living room of America. Beginning in 1950, Bob’s variety specials were a staple of television viewing throughout the country.
Bob made his formal debut on NBC television Easter Sunday, 1950. Frigidaire sponsored the special, “Star Spangled Revue,” which featured Bob’s guest stars, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Beatrice Lillie, and Dinah Shore.
The formula, along with Bob’s unshakable decision to avoid a weekly show, proved extremely successful. For 60 years (radio and television), Bob was an NBC headliner and Nielsen ratings king.
The archive contains some 450 hours offering 100s of performances and appearances by the best of the best guest stars including musical icons Barbra Streisand, Beach Boys, Jackson Five, Bing Crosby, The Supremes, Glen Campbell, Dean Martin, Petula Clark, Tom Jones, The Carpenters, John Denver, Chaka Kahn, Aretha Franklin, America, Neil Sedaka, Julie Andrews, Willie Nelson, Bernadette Peters, Johnny Cash, Crystal; Gayle, The Pointer Sisters, The Osmonds, Paula Abdul and Dolly Parton. Besides the musical guests, numerous A-list celebrities appeared through the years on Bob’s shows; here are just a few: Micky Mantle, Jayne Mansfield, Joan Crawford, Betty White, Phyllis Diller, Carol Burnett, John Wayne, Astronaut Neil Armstrong, Bob Newhart, Muhammad Ali, Neil Simon, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, and five US Presidents! – Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, and Bill Clinton.

It offers the chance to visit the main capital cities of Central Europe on the way from London to Constantinople, including stunning aerial views and street scenes of the cities at that time.
Shot in 35mm and now scanned in 4K, this exciting 90-minute documentary was reedited in its original version from original nitrate negatives and meticulously restored by GP archives technical team.
